Gordon Herbert – Coach of the Year 2023

Gordon Herbert, national coach of the German men’s national basketball team, was honored by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) as Coach of the Year 2023. The award ceremony took place on December 17 during the “Sportsman of the Year” gala in Baden-Baden. This award recognizes Herbert’s exceptional achievements and his commitment to his players and the sport of basketball.

Klaus Perwas, co-coach of the German men’s national basketball team, emphasized in his laudatory speech that the year 2023 will go down in the history books thanks to the impressive achievements of Herbert and his team at the Basketball World Cup. Herbert’s ability to turn individuals into a cohesive team was particularly remarkable.

Canadian Herbert has been coaching since 2021, leading the team to a bronze medal at the 2022 European Championships and then sensationally winning the World Cup in the same year. At the award ceremony, Herbert expressed his honor and humility and dedicated the recognition to his dedicated players, staff and coaches. He thanked them for their cooperation with many outstanding personalities.

DOSB Vice President Miriam Welte emphasized the importance of coaches for top sporting performance and the personal development of athletes. She explained that Herbert is being honored with this award on behalf of many great coaches in the country.
