A glimpse behind the scenes
I was given the extraordinary honor of meeting with Chancellor Scholz in the Chancellery. The occasion was the historic victory of our German men’s national basketball team, which secured the world championship title without a single defeat. A moment that we will all never forget.
During our meeting in the Chancellery, we reviewed the exciting and thrilling moments of the tournament together with Chancellor Scholz. Of course, the thrilling victory against the favored US team in the quarter-finals and the nerve-wracking final against Serbia with an 83:77 victory were highlighted in particular.
The Chancellor not only praised our sporting achievements, but also the growing popularity of basketball in Germany. With our victory, we not only made history, but also further fanned the enthusiasm for basketball throughout the country.
The future of German basketball looks promising, as we will soon be hosting two international basketball tournaments. In 2025, Germany will host a preliminary round group of the European Women’s Basketball Championship together with other countries, followed by the Women’s Basketball World Championship in Berlin in 2026. I am convinced that these events will further increase interest in basketball, especially women’s basketball.
The next big challenge is already on the horizon for me and my team: the Olympic Games in Paris. After our world championship title, we have also qualified for this and are striving for a medal once again.
I am grateful for the support and enthusiasm that has accompanied us on our journey. Special thanks go to Chancellor Scholz for his recognition and respect for our achievements. Together we have achieved great things and I am proud to be a part of this unforgettable journey.
